Nakhla
(Abu Hommos, Alexandria, Egypt) Nakhlite (stone)
Fell 28th June 1911
A meteorite from MARS!
This is one of the most difficult to obtain Martian meteorites, with most of this fall being securely locked away for research purposes and a low TKW of just 10Kg. This meteorite has been (and continues to be!) extensively researched and studied amid renewed claims of fossilised Martian bacterial life forms found within the stony matrix. Nakhla is the type specimen and the "N" designation in the SNC suite of Martian meteorites.
